A 29-year-old man, Adam Corcoran, has appeared in court charged with the murder of his partner, Daena Walsh (27).
Her body was discovered at an apartment in Midleton, Co Cork on Friday afternoon.
Mr. Corcoran appeared at a special sitting of Mallow District Court in Co Cork today.
Detective Garda Cormac O’Bric gave evidence or arrest, charge and caution and said Adam Corcoran said “No comment” when the charge was put to him.
Mr Corcoran has been remanded in custody by Judge Philip O’Leary as bail cannot be granted for a murder charge at District Court level.
Defence solicitor Eddie Burke applied for free legal aid for his client and asked that he receive any necessary medical treatment while in custody.
Mother of two Daena Walsh was pronounced dead at her home at John Barry House in Midleton after 4pm on Friday.
It is understood she had suffered stab wounds.
Emergency services were called to the apartment after receiving a report of an injured woman and discovered the apartment was also on fire.
Mr Corcoran is due to appear before the court again next Tuesday via video link.
