ASTI Warns Of Teacher Shortages In Certain Subjects In Dublin

It comes as many young educators have emigrated or moved outside of the city due to high prices.

A school in South Dublin told the Sunday Independent they lost six teachers this summer due to the cost of living.

Deputy General Secretary of the ASTI, Diarmuid de Paor, says life outside of the capital is enticing. “There is already a crisis in certain subjects, nationally. Particularly the stem subjects, Home Economics, Irish. It is particularly difficult in Dublin. People who get offered a job in Dublin and then get offered a job elsewhere will do the sums and work out what out what their standard of living will be and they will opt for a job down the country.”
